What is a Funeral Celebrant?

A Funeral Celebrant is a person who is trained and qualified to conduct a ceremony or ritual at a funeral or memorial service.

Ideally a consultation with the one for whom the service will be for takes place in advance, to ensure their beliefs, values and desires are accurately captured and understood in order to authentically honour their life.

When it is not possible to consult with the person the event is being created for, a Funeral Celebrant meets with and co-creates the event with the family and/or close friends of the deceased.

These events are a creative compliment to, or an alternative to, traditional, religious and or funeral/burial ceremonies.

From the starting point that every life is meaningful and significant, the service or ceremony tells the story of the person being remembered:

  • Who were they?
  • How did they live Life?
  • What was important to them?
  • Who are the important people that remain?
  • Personalized and professional life tributes typically take about ten hours to design. Every Life is unique, therefore, Roxanne does not simply insert a new name into an existing template.

Roxanne is a Certified Funeral Celebrant through the InSight Institute in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
